This Veterans Day, J. Michael Martinez writes about how the U.S. treats its veterans and anybody caught in the crossfire of its wars. Born with a skin defect inherited from his father, Martinez tells his story about Agent Orange and its generational effects.

A multimedia artist, Martinez is an assistant professor of poetry at San Jose State University’s MFA creative writing program.
