We are grateful for the contributions of all of our supporters.
Our funders are essential partners in advancing our mission.
The antislavery press was largely supported and sustained through small and large donations from those people committed to ending slavery. As a nonprofit newsroom, we are totally supported and sustained through large and small gifts from people committed to ending racism. These supporters, then and now, are Emancipators.
The Emancipators help us to reveal the racism that the powerful denies. The Emancipators allow us to focus on accuracy and context as opposed to clicks and profits like the corporate media. The Emancipators believe in the power of independent, nonprofit journalism to educate, inspire and drive transformational change.

The publisher of The Emancipator is the Institute for Advanced Study, a nonpartisan convener of experts and students from across disciplines and fields to produce greater knowledge and public understanding of racism. The Institute’s home is Howard University, the nation’s most eminent historically Black university, founded by abolitionists in 1867. One of Howard’s earliest trustees was none other than abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who established The North Star in 1847 in Rochester, New York.
The Emancipator is editorially independent of Howard University. The views expressed here do not reflect the views of Howard University.
Help fuel the antiracist movement! Support us and give here!
